Help Using America's Literacy Directory
Using the Advanced Search

The advanced search area on America's Literacy Directory (ALD) can help you narrow your search to find programs that meet your specific needs. The advanced search can be reached by clicking on the "Advanced Search" tab at the top right of this page.

What follows is some explanation of the options available to you on the advanced search. You can choose as many options or any combination of these options, to get your desired results.

Find programs in and around a certain zip code, city, and/or state based on a mileage radius

Fill in the zip code or city, and/or state areas then choose the mileage radius that suits your needs. The mileage choices are 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, and 250 miles.

The results will show all programs available in and around the zip, city, and/or state of your choice at that radius. If you do not see desired results at one level radius, click the "Back" button on your browser and choose a higher mileage.

That offer any of these services

Choose one or more of the list of services under this heading. Your choices are:

• Help with math for Adults
• Help with reading and writing for Adults
• Learning English (as a second language) for Adults
• Official GED test center for Adults
• Study for GED or other high school program for Adults
• After-school program for Children
• Help with homework for Children
• Help with math for Children
• Help with reading and writing for Children
• Learning English (as a second language) for Children

With any of these types of instruction

You can choose the size and type of class you'd like to participate in. Some of the choices are:

• Classroom
• Computer-aided
• One-to-one
• Small group

On any of these days, On any of these times of day

These two options let you choose the day(s) of the week and time(s) of day you need.

And is reachable by public transportation

Choices here are: "Doesn't matter", "Must have", or "Must not have"

The rest of your options on the advanced search page are for very specific search needs. Here you can search on type of organization, name of organization, the contact name and phone number, street address, and/or if it accepts private donations.

Remember: you can combine any or all of the areas on the advanced search page to get your desired results. The more areas you choose the narrower your results.
